Assumptions & limitations

Assumptions

  • Without UNA, standard UN/EDIFACT service characters are assumed.
  • A release character escapes the immediately following service character.

Limitations

  • The viewer does not validate a directory version or message implementation guideline.
  • Binary or compressed interchange payloads must be decoded first.

04 / FAQ

Questions about edifact formatter

What happens if UNA is missing?

The formatter uses the standard defaults: plus for data elements, colon for components, question mark for release, and apostrophe for segments.

Are escaped apostrophes handled?

Yes. A segment terminator preceded by the active release character remains data.
